Initially, when asked if I’d consider testing out the new Poise Impressa Sizing Kit from Target, I started to giggle. How It Works: The first step was obviously buying Poise Impressa. This is where I failed. For some reason, I got super self conscious and kept waiting until the Target sales clerk moved her little watchful-khakis out of sight, before I swooped in to make my choice. Shortly after, I realized that the Poise was located directly across from the tampon aisle, so there really was no need for my sneakery. Plus, I could have just ordered it online at Target.com and had it delivered to my house. (Quick aside: you can’t wear this during your period, because it prevents leakage instead of absorbing, unlike a tampon. You also shouldn’t use it if you’re pregnant, in case that was in question.)
Poise strongly suggests that users purchase the Sizing Kit first. This helps ensure that you’re using the correct size for your body (your bladder will thank you later). It has nothing to do with your weight or your actual body size, but more what’s going on inside. Who knew our innards had a size too? Start with the first size- insert and remove just as you would a tampon- and if you still leak, work your way up (there are a triad of sizes in the line). Fortunately for me… or rather, my friend… the first size was all it took.
What I Learned: There is no need to be weird about SUI. Whether you’re a mother or a ballerina (we do a lot of jumping!) or just a paranoid pee-er… this product is discrete and sleek. You can wear it for up to 8 hours at a time, and don’t need to remove every time you go to the bathroom. Also, if you happen to leak urine suddenly without it being movement related, you probably should try Poise liners and pads for Urge Urinary Incontinence instead.
